Abstract: | Abstract
The world of Internet as such is open and unsecure by default. Companies and organizations use the enormous possibilities that the internet offers to build computer systems to enable communication and data sharing capabilities within their corporate platforms. In doing so, they continuously strive towards providing a fast, efficient and at the same time secure working environment by protecting their organizational assets. Enterprises build their network infrastructure with intention to find reliable solutions to protect themselves from un-trusted and criminal activity. An organization that offers financial services may conclude billions of dollars in transactions that involve real-time market data. The transaction parties must be absolutely ensured of the authenticity of the receiver on the other side of the communication endpoint. A hospital must ensure that their patient's personal data will remain confidential against code of ethics, privacy of patient's medical information and to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Privacy Act (HIPPA) 1996. IPSec VPN offers such solutions that would make all this possible, to secure connectivity between different hospitals and with the insurance organization. Today's VPN solutions overcome the security factor using special tunneling protocols and complex encryption procedures, data integrity and privacy features by enabling connections that produce what seems to the users a dedicated point-to point connection over a public network, thus offering a cost effective and significantly less to implement than privately owned or leased services. Nowadays, VPNs are a simple and affordable solution for businesses of all sizes. Private networks are private and use leased internet lines that are relatively expensive, to enable sharing and protecting users' data. These networks are to be considered when there are few locations in close distance to each other where the quality of service (QoS) is the top priority for the organisations leadership and to users. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is all about Data privacy. IPSec involves many other techniques to add Privacy through encryption, Data Integrity through hashing etc. VPN is an extension of a private network made private through added features like encapsulating the data packets with a header on both ends and along the lines of the communication and throughout setting communication tunnels using composite suite of protocols available. |
