This thesis will focus on the importance of teaching English as a second language, which methods to apply or how can we combine the traditional teaching methods and modern teaching methods. More precisely, the thesis will investigate the role of past, present and future ways of teaching English as a bridge for overcoming any possible difficulties or unpleasant situations while teaching English as a second language takes place. First, this thesis will state the importance of learning English language, how do people learn and ways of learning, what is traditional teaching and what is modern teaching, pros and cons of each in general. Also, two instruments are used: a questionnaire, an interview and a case study with age 4-6 and age 10-15. Therefore, the thesis will show new methods of teaching, the role of the play in learning the language, what methodology has been used and is being used etc. It will be a two-phase research design. The first phase will include quantitative research instruments. This research will involved children of age 4-6 who are applying Helen Doron Method which strengthen the power of emotion, develop the power of imagination, train the memory and encourage creativity. The quantitative data collection will include a questionnaire and an interview. The second phase will include descriptive research by using interviews, findings from a questionnaire of twenty participants (learners) of elementary school "Yll Morina" in Kosovo age 10-15, first group of ten, who are being taught with Traditional Teaching Methods (TTM)and the second group of ten who are being taught by Modern Teaching Methods(MTM). These data will help us gather information and understand which methods do teachers use or have used and the role of each in order to learn the English language. Consenting with the requirements, six teachers of different teaching career will complete a short interview that will help us gather information on what methods are frequented most in Kosovo education system in the past and present and gather their opinions on what are the benefits of them.
