Abstract: | This book is one of two volumes resulting from a national conference. "International Education in American Colleges and Universities: Prospect and Retrospect," held in Washington, D.C., in April 1998, to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Title VI of the National Defense Education Act (formerly Title VI of the National Defense Education Act). In a special messages read at the opening of the conference, President Bill Clinton recognized the important contribution of Title VI in encouraging the free exchange of ideas and knowledge and i promoting international understanding and world peace. U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley's letter addresses to the conference participants praised Title VI's successful partnership between the federal government and American colleges and universities. |
