MultilingualismClass number: 306.44 Abstract: From October 7-9, 2010, at the Southeast European University in Tetovo was organized a conference on Concepts and Consequences of Multilingualism in Europe 2, the conference is a follow-up meeting of the conference on the Concepts and Consequences of Multilingualism in Europe 1 that look place in Budapest in September 2009, and hosted by the Budapest College of Communication and Business. The organizer of this conference was the Department of the Albanian Language and Literature with coordinator PhD Mustafa Ibrahimi in collaboration with the Research Group ’’Babylonian Europe’’ of the University of Amsterdam with the coordinator PhD Laszlo Maracz who made the selection of 28 papers from 14 countries: Netherland, Croatia, Australia, Kosova, Canada, Albania, Norway, Hungary, Switzerland, Poland, Romania, Belgium and Macedonia. The conference was attended by 34 authors, of whom 23 were foreign and only 11 of them were domestic authors. Rector Prof. Zamir Dika opened the conference, after that, Paul Foster, the head of the Faculty of Languages, Cultures and Communication PhD Vebi Bexheti and coordinators of the two universities PhD Mustafa Ibrahimi and PhD Laszlo Maracz made the opening speech. At the conference, four panels elaborated on the following topics : (1) multilingual institutions and organizations; (2) multicultural societies; (3) a tool-kit for transnational communication and (4) free space. Die Pragmatik ist eine Teildisziplin der Linguistik, die sich seit ihrer akade-mischen Etablierung-etwa mit der Gründung der Zeitschrift Journal of Prag-matics (1977), Levinsons wegweisender Einführung Pragmatics (1983) und der Gründung der International Pragmatics Association (1986) - zu einer großen und einflussreichen Forschungsrichtung entwickelt hat. Vom raschen Anwachsen der Pragmatik zeugen z. B. Neuerscheinungen wie The Pragma¬tics Encyclopedia, herausgegeben von Louise Cummings (2010), The Cam¬bridge Handbook of Pragmatics, herausgegeben von Keith Allan und Kasia M. Jaszczolt (2012), die neunbändige Reihe Handbooks of Pragmatics (2010-2013), herausgegeben von Wolfram Bublitz, Andreas H. Jucker und Klaus P. Schneider, sowie The Oxford Dictionary of Pragmatics (2012) und The Oxford Handbook of Pragmatics (2015), beide herausgegeben von Yan Huang. Hinzu kommen neuere pragmatische Zeitschriften, z. B. Intercultural Pragmatics (seit 2004), International Review of Pragmatics (seit 2008) und Pragmatics & Society (seit 2010). Was ist der Gegenstand dieser wachsenden und einflussreichen For-schungsrichtung? Unser Ausgangspunkt in diesem Buch ist, dass die Pragma-tik sich mit dem Hervorbringen und dem Verstehen von Bedeutung im Kon¬text beschäftigt. Was damit gemeint ist, lässt sich an Beispielen wie (1)-(3) illustrieren. (1) Sie war's nicht; sie auch nicht; ich glaube, es war sie. Die Bedeutung der Äußerung (1) ist ohne die Kenntnis des situativen Kontexts nicht angebbar. Wir wissen nicht, wer zu wem spricht, auf wen mit sie jeweils Bezug genommen wird, und was es ist, das diese Personen (nicht) getan ha-ben. Die wörtliche Bedeutung der Äußerung ist also stark unterbestimmt. Im Kontext einer Gegenüberstellung der Zeugin Anna mit potentiellen Einbre-cherinnen können wir dagegen die Äußerung problemlos verstehen. Das pragmatische Teilgebiet, das sich mit der Bedeutung von Ausdrücken be-schäftigt, die nur im Kontext eine Bedeutung erhalten können, ist die Deixis. In Beispielen wie (2) gehört zur Bestimmung der Äußerungsbedeutung Kenntnis des vorangehenden sprachlichen Kontexts. Die Äußerung von Karl erhält ihren Sinn nur vor dem Hintergrund der Äußerung von Anna. (2) Anna: Komm, lass uns heute Abend ins Kino gehen. Karl: Ich muss für eine Prüfung lernen. Karl will ja nicht einfach mitteilen, dass er für eine Prüfung lernen muss. Vielmehr gibt Karl mit dieser Äußerung indirekt zu verstehen, dass er Annas Vorschlag ablehnt. Das Beispiel zeigt, dass wir mit Äußerungen Handlungen vollziehen: Wir schlagen etwas vor, wir teilen etwas mit, wir lehnen etwas ab. Das kann auf direkte, explizite Weise geschehen oder auf indirekte Wei¬se.
