Small business managementClass number: 658.02 Abstract: Mary Jane Byrd (DBA, IPMA-CP) is professor of accounting and management at the University of Mobile, where she has been teaching for 24 years. She and her husband operate a small business that they founded in 1974. Dr. Byrd is certified by the International Public Management Association and participates with the Academy of Management, United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. She also serves on the editorial board for the International Journal of Public Administration and the boards of various local organizations. She has presented refereed papers both in the United States and in England, and has co-authored seven business textbooks. Her hobbies include water sports, reading, travel, and writing. She is married to Gerald Byrd, and they have three daughters : Kari, Juli, and Cori. Leon Megginson (retired) has more than 15 years of managerial experience in the world of academics, practicing many of the skills found in this book. He served two years as associate dean of the business school at Louisiana State University (LSU), and he organized and served as chairman and dean of the School of Business at the University of Mobile for eight years. Although he had a short stay at the University of South Alabama, he received the Alumni Association's Research Professor of the Year award. He served as operations officer of a squadron of more than 100 pilots and airmen in the 25th Bomb Squad, U.S. Air Force, during World War II. He was a Fulbright Research Scholar in Spain during the 1960s and a Ford Foundation Advisor in Pakistan from 1978 to 1979, assisting the Pakistani government in the area of management development. He is a fellow in the Academy of Management. Dr. Megginson is the author or co-author of 38 editions of 18 textbooks, several of which have won awards. He has spoken or taught in more than 50 countries, including Poland, Turkey, Germany, England, Switzerland, Iran, Iraq, Denmark, Canada, Italy, and Belgium. He has conducted management courses at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and at the Pentagon in Washington, among other places. While at LSU, he chaired the committee that planned the University of New Orleans.
