Salaries, etc. --Cross-cultural studies.Class number: 378.1 Abstract: Paying the professoriate- How are professors paid? Can the "best and brightest" be attracted to the academic profession? With universities facing international competition, which countries compensate their academics best, and which ones lag behind? Paying the Professoriate examines these questions and provides key insights and recommendations into the current state of the academic profession worldwide. Paying the Professoriate is the first comparative analysis of global faculty salaries, remuneration, and terms of employment. Offering an in-depth international comparison of academic salaries in 28 countries across public, private, research, and non-research universities, chapter authors shed light on the conditions and expectations that shape the modern academic profession. The top researchers on the academic profession worldwide analyze common themes, trends, and the impact of these matters on academic quality and research productivity. In a world where higher education capacity is a key driver of national innovation and prosperity, and nations seek to fast-track their economic growth through expansion of higher education systems, policy makers and administrators increasingly seek answers about what actions they should be taking. Paying the Professoriate provides a much needed resource, illuminating the key issues and offering recommendations. Higher educationClass number: 378.1 Abstract: These proceedings derive from the presentations given at the regional Higher Education Conference on Assessment, Qualification and Evaluation which was held on 20 June 2014 on the Tetovo campus of South East European University. This was the second conference on the theme of quality enhancement organized by the University. The intention of this conference was to gather in one place interested instructors, researchers, students, and managers, and to allow them to exchange ideas about quality in assessment and evaluation with their peers. It is heartening to note that this pressing topic—one with both professional and ethical implications in the work of higher education—is already generating significant and informative research in the Balkan region. Ultimately, quality of assessment, of qualification, and of evaluation lies at the heart of the teacher’s agreement with the students in the class and impacts on their individual careers as well as wider social and economic well-being and development. It is the hope of the conference organizers, and of the Editorial Board of this publication, that this volume will contribute to this discussion. The papers published here have been submitted by the presenters in expanded and elaborated form from their presentations; this allows each individual contributor, or team of contributors, to express the results of their research most fully. For the purposes of widest comprehension and distribution, the English language was required of submissions. As many of the authors, however, are not native speakers of English, the papers have been edited for linguistic coherence. They have not been edited for content as such. They do not necessarily reflect the views of South East European University, nor of the editorial board of these proceedings. They have also been represented to the Editorial Review Committee as being original contributions that have not been published elsewhere and are fully compliant with all appropriate scholarly citation. The Editorial Review Committee has published these papers in good faith, but the responsibility for proper academic usage and citation remains with the contributors. Contents note: Elena Spirovska: THE IMPACT OF ASSESSMENT ON STUDENTS’ LEARNING IN THE CONTEXT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING AND LEARNING; Blagojka Zdravkovska-Adamova, Aleksandra P.
