Abstract: Të shkruash një parathënie të re për një vepër të hartuar rreth tridhjetë e pesë vjet më parë është një përvojë e rrallë. Të përthithesh nga një kërshëri e tillë është paksa ngushëlluese, ngase askush nuk duhet të turpërohet nga mendimet e her-shme vetjake. Në krahun tjetër, t'i shqyrtosh gjërat nga e para, është e vështirë, sepse e ardhmja e gjithkujt doemos ndryshon pas një periudhe të tillë kohoro, ndërkohë, mund të mos e fi-llosh nga e njëjta pikënisje. Ndaj, kam parapëlqyer t'i lë tekstet të flasin vetë për veten, si rishikim i asaj se si dukeshin studi-met për elitat në atë kohë, kur pikëpamjet e elitës për politikën ishin një kapërthim diskutimesh normative, metodologjike dhe substanciale me marksistët, pluralistët dhe demokratët pjesë-marrës. Përtej kësaj, në këtë parathënie të re, dëshiroj të tregoj në cilat drejtime kanë vijuar studimet për elitat dhe se si stu-diuesit e politikës mund t'i thellojnë në mënyrë të dobishme këto shtigje. Në përgjithësi, shkencëtarët politikë janë interesuar për elitat në dy drejtime. Njëri drejtim ka të bëjë me shqyrtimin e gjinisë, prejardhjen sociale, arsimimin, hapat e karrierës dhe orientimet politike të atyre njerëzve që arrijnë pozicione drejtuese në një sërë veprimtarish që kanë ndikim të madh në shoqëri. Kjo qasje merret gjithashtu sa me ilustrimin dhe shqyrtimin e suazës së mundësive në një shoqëri, aq edhe me veprimin politik. Ajo shqyrton zakonisht se sa përfaqësuese janë elitat në aspektin shoqëror apo arsimor ose, më thjesht, sa jopërfaqësuese të popullsisë së gjerë janë ato. Një drejtim i dytë synon të për-caktojë se në cilin nivel anëtarët e një elite veprojnë si elitë.

Abstract: he Essential Neoconservative Reader captures the drama and historical importance of conservationism's rise from 1965 to the present, by collecting influential essays by its most noted figures - among them Irving Kristol, Norman Podhoretz, Nathan Glazer, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Gertrude Himmelfarb, and James Q. Wilson. The word "neoconservative" was first used as a term of derision for disgruntled ex-liberals of the 1960s. Perhaps because of this, there has never been a central credo or organization unifying conservationism as a movement. With this collection, however, conservationism is cast in a new light, portrayed as a comprehensive outlook on economics, politics, society, and culture linked by common principles and a distinctive vision.
