U proglasu iz Port Hjurona iz 1962. godine, osnivačkom dokumentu Nove levice, podjednako kritički se govori i o državnom socijalizmu i o multinacionalnim korporacijama: oba načina upravljanja izgledala su kao birokratski zatvori. Istorija je delimično ispunila želje sastavljača proglasa iz Port Hjurona. Nestala je socijalistička vladavina petogodišnjih planova i centralizovane ekonomske kontrole. Više nema ni kapitalističkih korporacija koje su zaposlenima doživotno obezbeđivale posao, a potrošače iz godine u godinu snabdevale istim proizvodima i uslugama.
