Multiculturalism - MacedoniaClass number: 306.08 Abstract: The citizens of the Republic of Macedonia (RMJ seem to be very proud of their multiethnic, multilingual and multicultural environment. Very often, the common Balkan culture and tradition are considered as mutual characteristics and values that make them fee! close to each other. In spite of this, when it comes to the language use, there is certain hesitation. More and more young native speakers of Albanian do not speak Macedonian and native speakers of Macedonian are not encouraged enough to learn Albanian. Such positions are in danger of bringing about a situation, present even now, that young people from different nationalities in Macedonia communicate among themselves in English. This paper aims to reconfirm the benefits of multilingualism and make some recommendations about its promotion in the local community, taking into consideration the views of parents of elementary school children from both nationalities: Macedonian and Albanian. 20 people will be asked to present their opinion about the obligatory and elective language courses that their children follow in primary schools. In addition to this, an expert opinion will be required from language professionals about the same issue. The conclusions are expected to be of use to the policy makers, the educational institutions and parents. Language and languages - Study and teachingClass number: 418 Abstract: Culture Bound is designed to give language teachers a basis for introducing a cultural component into their teaching. The articles give a perspective on how language and culture interact and explore in particular the difference between interacting with another culture and entering it: language students are encouraged to understand the new culture without necessarily embracing it. This selection brings together representative practical and theoretical material written by a variety of scholars and teachers in the field. The essays are organized under three headings: language, thought, and culture; cultural differences and similarities; and classroom applications; The collection as a whole brings both breadth and depth to a topic that has been strangely neglected despite its recognized importance. Contents note: Language, Thought, and Culture : Language and thought Franz Boas; Culture and the written language Robert B. Kaplan; Acculturation and mind William R. Acton and Judith Walker de Felix; Learning a second culture H.
