The goal of this master thesis is to present the specter of fears that author Edgar Allan Poe presented in his short stories. These fears range from ever-existing fears such as the fear of death to fears of insanity, environment, being buried alive and also a fair bit of autobiographical fears that Poe included in his writing. Each of the fears will be analyzed individually through chapters while incorporating interchangeably the stories and characters in them. Therein the perspectives of fear from the standpoint of the characters will also be a topic of debate generally focusing on the two specters of perpetrators and victims which contribute a lot of to the stories and shed more light to what effects Poe was trying to achieve with his writing. Furthermore, Poe’s individual drive to the implementation of these fears will be put under a loop and the reader will thereby understand the motivation of Poe’s writing and his aim as a writer of common short stories as well as a writer of one of the most prominent horror stories ever written.

This study examines the effect of the computer in acquiring a second language. Moreover, this study shows how the use of computer based activities, such as computer games and songs, increase the pupils' ability to understand the spoken and written form of English and their ability to recognize the written form of the new vocabulary. It describes the pupils' and their parents' attitudes and beliefs towards the usage of computer in the classroom; moreover, the thesis provides the pupils' attitude towards computer usage for the purpose of learning, their impressions about the computer games and songs, and their impressions about computer based lessons prepared for this research. The main objective of the study is not just to discover whether the computer games and songs have a positive effect in acquiring a second language, but to discover why the use of computer games and songs is effective in English language learning. To achieve this aim, I examined twenty-three fifth grade learners, who study English as a foreign language. This research took place in the primary school Nuri Mazari in Dollogozhda, Struga. Since computer usage was necessary for this study, I prepared a questionnaire with general questions about the learners' ability to use computers. They completed this questionnaire before the study. The learners were divided into two groups, the control and the experimental group. Both of the groups took a pre- and a post-test. At the beginning of the study, pupils took the pre-test. It examined the learners' current knowledge about English. At the end of the study, pupils took the post-test, which examined the learners' knowledge after the study took place. In this way, the learners' progress in learning English is more obvious. The pre-test results of the control group were a little bit higher than the experimental group. However, the results gathered from post- test indicate that the experimental group who received computer-based lessons outperformed the control group who received only teacher based instructions.Record link: https://library.seeu.edu.mk/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=19386 Copies

Title : The Concept of the Seven Deadly Sins in Selected Characters from Shakespeare's Plays : doctoral studies-third cycle Material Type: printed text Authors: Krste Iliev, Dissertant ; Andrew Goodspeed, Thesis advisor Publisher: Tetovo : Faculty of Languages Cultures and Communications - SEEU Publication Date: 2022 Pagination: 179 p. Layout: ill. Size: 30 cm General note: Includes bibliographical references

This thesis explores Shakespeare’s implicit usage of the Seven Deadly Sins and their characteristics in order to portray the discussed characters in a predominantly negative light. Namely, according to R. Newhauser the phrase “seven deadly sins” in the Early Modern Period became a byword for an “encapsulated evil”. The thesis builds on previous works that link Shakespeare with the medieval world, most notably Helen Cooper`s works as well as works that link Shakespeare with this medieval concept of the Seven Deadly Sins, most notably the work of Richard Horton. It is worth noting that critics have previously depicted some of these characters as being proud, envious, angry, slothful, avaricious, gluttonous and/or lustful. This thesis expands on this view by providing an in-depth analysis of the characters through the lens of how the patristic authors, medieval books, as well as philosophers and writers influential in, but not limited to, the Renaissance have described the characteristics of these Sins or emotions. The existence of pride in the discussed characters is another point that this thesis makes. Namely, it attempts to prove that the analyzed characters are also proud, which serves as a potential cause for their downfall or misfortune. The conclusion again links Shakespeare to the medieval world, namely Dante Alighieri`s Divine Comedy. Specifically, Dante`s depiction of the Sins as a result of imperfect/ perverted/ misdirected love, subdivided into excessive love (lust, gluttony and avarice), deficient love (sloth) and malicious love (wrath, envy, pride) is applied to the characters` actions or inactions, as a concluding proof of their sinful nature.
Link for e-copy: https://repository.seeu.edu.mk/sites/thesis/ThesisSharedDocs/DR_124256.pdf Record link: https://library.seeu.edu.mk/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22031 Copies

Multiculturalism - MacedoniaClass number: 306.08 Abstract: The citizens of the Republic of Macedonia (RMJ seem to be very proud of their multiethnic, multilingual and multicultural environment. Very often, the common Balkan culture and tradition are considered as mutual characteristics and values that make them fee! close to each other. In spite of this, when it comes to the language use, there is certain hesitation. More and more young native speakers of Albanian do not speak Macedonian and native speakers of Macedonian are not encouraged enough to learn Albanian. Such positions are in danger of bringing about a situation, present even now, that young people from different nationalities in Macedonia communicate among themselves in English. This paper aims to reconfirm the benefits of multilingualism and make some recommendations about its promotion in the local community, taking into consideration the views of parents of elementary school children from both nationalities: Macedonian and Albanian. 20 people will be asked to present their opinion about the obligatory and elective language courses that their children follow in primary schools. In addition to this, an expert opinion will be required from language professionals about the same issue. The conclusions are expected to be of use to the policy makers, the educational institutions and parents. The main focus of this study is the analysis of the main character in Roddy Doyle's The Woman Who Walked into Doors (1997) and the sequel Paula Spencer (2006). This study will analyze the perception of domestic violence from the main character's point of view, and other issues concerning women such as their position in the society and family. This study will also look deeply in the way the author himself depicts the perception of domestic violence through the character and narration of Paula Spencer. Roddy Doyle is a contemporary Irish writer, and works as a full time writer. He worked as a teacher of Geography and English for fifteen years. He won the Booker Prize in 1993 for Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha. In his writings Doyle describes problems that could be part of any family and in any place of the world. Despite this, his work is almost always located specifically in the city of Dublin, Ireland, particularly among the disadvantaged or poor of Dublin. He also writes about poverty, violence, unemployment, marriage, family life and describes the working class families and their struggles to change the situation they are facing. He presents real life situations, and shows them as they really are, he also uses slang and profanity, and presents characters whose lives are tough and with no easy way out. But, he leaves us with the impression that the strong will survives, and that the good intention and the beauty of the good things survives which makes his characters triumph. The novels of our research deal with most of these themes. In The Woman Who Walked into Doors, the author discusses a working class family, which lives in poverty, with an abusive father and an alcoholic mother.Record link: https://library.seeu.edu.mk/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=19895 Copies
