Myth.
Nationalism--AlbaniaClass number: 949.65 Abstract: "Albanian identities:myth and history"- challenges some long-held assumptions regarding significant episodes in Albania’s past, sheds new light on aspects of Albanian life that have yet to be fully explored, and provides new insights and perspectives for interpreting the Albanian experience….a pioneering effort in English-Language studies on Albania’’ – Nicholas C.Pano
Albanian history is permeated by myths and mythical narratives that often serve political purposes, from the depiction of the legendary ‘Founder of the nation’, Skanderbeg, to the exploits pf the KLA in the recent Kosovo War. The essays in Albanian Identities , by a multinational , multidisciplinary team of scholars and non-academic specialists , deconstruct prevalent political or historiogarphical myths about Albania’s past and present , bringing to light the ways in which Albanian myths have started to justify ad direct violence , butters political power , and foster internal cohesion. Albanian Identities demonstrates the power which myths still possess to this day , as they underpin political and social processes in crisis-ridden post-totalitarian Albania.Contents note: Introduction; Narratives of Power: Capacities of Myth in Albania- Stephanie Schwandner-Sievers; The Nature of Myth: Some Theoretical Aspects -George Schdpflin; The history of albanian myth production; Invention of a Nationalism: Myth and Amnesia-Piro Misha; The Role of Education in the Formation of; Albanian Identity and its Myth-Isa Blumi; Religion and the Politics of'Albanianism': Naim Frasheri's Bektashi Writings--Ger Duijzings; Myths of Albanian National Identity: Some Key Elements, as Expressed in the Works of Albanian Writers in America in the Early Twentieth Century-- Noel Malcolm; Myths in communist politics, society and culture-- Between the Glory of a Virtual World and the Misery of a Real World--Fatos Lubonja; Ismail Kadare's The H-File and the Making of the Homeric Verse: Variations on the Works and Lives of Milman Parry and Albert Lord-- Galia Valtchinova; Enver Hoxha's Role in the Development of Socialist Albanian Myths-- M.J.
Science ReviewClass number: 028.1 Abstract: The Albanian national question is arguably the last major ethnic issue facing Europe today. This volume examines the origins and progress of that issue through the twentieth and into the twenty – first century. While the Albanian question had attracted some attention during the nineteenth century, it firs became a significant European diplomatic issue at the London Conference of Ambassadors (1912 – 1913). The Conference remains one of the key milestones in the history of the Albanian national question, Balkan history, and in the history of modern European diplomacy in general. The consequences of the decisions of the Conferences still have an impact today, fully one century later. The geopolitical maneuvering at the Conference create an entirely new Balkan political map, creating new states, while at the same time dividing ethnic groups.
