The influence of English language into the Albanian language, an increasing phenomenon which started two decades ago seems that is drawing attention to many people mainly linguists. With the development of technology and social media has developed the language as well. However, there are higher chances for neglecting the native language and using foreign words or loanwords. This research aims at raising awareness of native language preservation among high school students in the Republic of Kosovo. This research will measure the students' recognizing rate of English loanwords in context, what is the recognizing rate of English loanwords alone and what are students' attitudes toward English loanwords. Furthermore, I will be dealing with the processes of language, why and what happens when they come in contact with one another. Last but not least, I'll be providing a list of most common loanwords by students and then write the equivalent word in Albanian. This research will be beneficial both for students and Albanian language speakers in general. Keywords: Albanian, English, loanwords, students, influence, social media, technology.

Languages : English (eng) Original Language : English (eng) Descriptors: English language - Study and teaching - Foreign speakers Class number: 428 Abstract: After its independence in 1991 the diverse society of Macedonia had gone through a period of social and economic transformations. This period- widely labeled the "transition period"—took longer than many expected. At the beginning of the 21st century Macedonia is still challenged by a number of circumstances that are serious obstacles for the development of its society, such as social, interethnic and educational issues. Although "positive reforms", "change", and "aiming for the west" were a few of the slogans used by every new government, these reforms were only vaguely present in many state institutions. Education is presently one of the fields that struggles with these challenges, striving in particular to promote teaching with a multicultural perspective, intercultural tolerance and higher educational standards. The purpose of this study is to develop a few concepts for teachers and students in order to understand and practice intercultural awareness and its impact in today's education. These basic principles aim to promote a practice in teaching that will follow the necessary standards to be involved in the European Educational Community, such as: curriculum reform, multicultural competence, equity pedagogy and societal equity. Since Macedonia is a pluralistic society, understanding and celebrating the differences in education should be part of the "teaching in a pluralistic society concept", and in order to develop this practice teachers and all member of the educational system must endorse a multicultural perspective in their teaching and decision making. This study builds on previous research using two worldwide known research instruments, the BALLI survey and the SILL questionnaire. This study investigated the relationship between the learners" beliefs about English language learning and their strategy use in terms of the variable in question gender and other related factors alongside the overall language learning process. The two instruments were administered to a total of 105 freshman students at the Economic Department , "F.S.Noli" in Korea, Albania evolving relatively N= 68 Females and N=37 Males. A Placement Test was employed since the beginning to divide the students into Pre-intermediate and Intermediate proficiency levels. Results indicated that overall males and females held similar beliefs about language learning, with only some slight but insignificant differences. The present large scale study relates strategy use to gender and L2 proficiency and includes analysis of variations in the use of overall engendered strategies on the SILL. Based on the data collection, comparisons of respective controlled groups' findings revealed greater use of learning strategies by more successful learners and higher levels of strategy use by both genders. Variations in the language learning achievements, were results of other factors such as proficiency, attitude, motivation, self-efficacy rather than gender.Record link: https://library.seeu.edu.mk/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=19387 Copies

The purpose of this project was to describe cooperative learning versus individual learning, and to conduct a research study about these two learning methods and the positive impact on students' motivation for doing well in school in general, and in English language learning (ELL) in particular. It describes students' beliefs and attitudes toward cooperative learning (CL) and individual learning (IL), and their impressions of each instructional approach. The thesis provides a detailed description of CL, its elements, types, and techniques used to facilitate learning. The main objective is to gain knowledge about CL, which is considered an effective method in the process of education, and to prove the hypothesis if CL enhances students' satisfaction toward learning, promotes higher increase of self-esteem, effects academic achievement as well as students' motivation to do well in school. Even though the whole idea behind this thesis is related to CL, the research is conducted using the both of methods, CL and IL, with the purpose to make a comparison between these two methods after getting the research results. The 50 targeted respondents consisted of middle school students of Gostivar in Macedonia and Prishtina in Kosovo (pre- intermediate level), who learn English as a mandatory subject at school. The results gathered from the students who participated in this study show that CL approach is more effective compared to IL, which show less motivation in the process of education. In addition, students who cooperated with each other to do a task were faster and better in doing written assignments, performed better in speaking classes, than those who worked individually. In general, this thesis is consisted with expected results. Key words: second language, cooperative learning, individual learning, motivation, self-esteem, achievement, and satisfaction.Record link: https://library.seeu.edu.mk/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=19020 Copies
